Stay updated

You need to stay updated with hacking threats. If you have a basic knowledge of what is possible, then you can prevent your website against it. Follow up to date at a tech site, such as “The Hacker News”. Use the gained information to put fresh precautions in place when necessary.

Updates cost software firms money. If the cause behind the update is a security vulnerability, delaying an update reveals you to attack in the interim span. Hackers can scan thousands of websites an hour, looking for vulnerabilities that will let them break in. If one hacker realizes how to get into a program then hundreds of hackers will aware as well.

Toughen up access control

The admin level of your website is an easier way that you don’t want a hacker to see. Enforce user names and passwords that can’t be guessed. Change the default database prefix from “wp6_” to something arbitrary and harder to guess. Limit the number of login strives within a definite time, even with password resets, because e-mail accounts can be hacked as well. Never send the login details by email, in case an uncertified user gets access to the account.

Use SSL

Use an encrypted SSL protocol to transit users personal data between the website and your database. This will protect the data being read in transfer and accesses without a proper sanction.

Tighten network security

Computer users in your office may be accidently providing an easy access route to your website servers. Ensure that:

  • Logins expire after a short period of inactivity.
  • Changed Passwords frequently.
  • Strong Passwords and NEVER written down.
  • All devices plugged into the network, scanned for malware each time they are attached.

Had to watch, network security on a minute-by-minute basis not to be hacked.

Install a web application firewall

A web application firewall (WAF) can be based on software or hardware. It sets in-between website server and data connection, reads every bit of data passing through it.

WAFs are cloud based and provides as a plug and play services. Once installed web application firewall, provides a complete peace of mind by blocking all hacking try’s and also filtering out other types of unwanted traffic, like spammers and malicious bots. This is a great way to avoid getting hacked.

Limit file uploads

File uploads are a prime issue. No matter how closely the system checks them out, bugs can still get through and let hacker unlimited access to your site’s data. The better solution is to prevent direct access to any uploaded files. Store the file outside the root directory and use a script to access the file when necessary. Your web host will help you to set this up.
